Ellie Richard, Interior Designer, Vintage Princess

An August afternoon inside Ellie Richard's impeccably curated, vintage-filled Lower East Side apartment.

What neighborhood do you live in and why does it suit you?

LES! It's vibrant, so fun, and so convenient. I could have a shopping spree or go to a great restaurant or a dive bar all in the same 5-block radius. I find that generally people are dressed really well which makes me want to go out more. Also, so many of my friends live in LES so it feels like a slumber party year round.

How would you describe your style in two words?

Vintage Princess  ̄\_(ツ)_/ ̄

What is your favorite corner of NYC?

Two answers.
1. Dimes Square SORRY! I love the Swan Room, Cervo's and Le Dive... all in the same night sometimes, with a nightcap at Mr. Fong's.

2. The Ralph Lauren Madison Ave flagship is my version of Disney World, and I love to walk to Central Park after and watch the model boats at the Conservatory Water pond.

Where do you shop secondhand and what are you always hunting for?

In the city, I love Seven Wonders on Grand, A.W. Kaufman, P. Principle, and Ellen on Ludlow. But a lot of my vintage comes from closet sales, TRR, eBay, Depop, and honestly Etsy.

Best piece you've ever found secondhand?

I think it would be this silk navy blue Balenciaga polka dot dress I bought at Ivy Getty's closet sale. I made a TikTok about my haul, & Ivy commented and let me know that that dress used to be Chloë Sevigny's (!!!!) My ultimate icon. It is such a treasure to me and feels like a stamp of approval from Chloë.
